Didn’t HILCO Electric recently increase rates?
Yes. Adjustments are part of a long-term strategy designed to gradually strengthen the Cooperative’s financial position. HEC has been implementing small increases over the years to match increasing costs and maintain financial stability. Prior to 2020, small adjustments were made annually. For residential service, there were increases to the facilities charge of $1.00 in 2018 and $1.25 in 2019. Increases were temporarily halted after 2019 due to the challenges resulting from COVID and winter storm Uri. However, increases in operating costs were not halted during that time. In fact, significant increases in costs resulted from these events. Small annual adjustments were resumed in 2024, among them were increases to the residential service facilities charge of $0.75 in 2024, $0.50 in 2025, and $1.50 in 2026. There has been no change made to the residential energy charge since May 2000.
